FUNCTIONS OF CIDCO -TS
CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra) is the premier government planning agency responsible for transforming Navi Mumbai into one of the world's largest planned cities.
It builds entire townships, designs urban infrastructure (roads, water, electricity), and provides affordable housing through its periodic lottery systems.
Beyond city planning, CIDCO is tasked with several specialized roles:
Mega Infrastructure Execution: Spearheading large-scale regional projects, including the ambitious Navi Mumbai International Airport and the Navi Mumbai Metro.
Affordable Housing:
Developing over a lakh of housing units—primarily for Lower and Middle-Income Groups (LIG/MIG)—often offered through the CIDCO Housing Lottery.
Special Planning Authority (SPA): Managing massive land parcels and controlling zoning regulations across designated growth hubs, such as the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA).
Commercial and Land Allocation: Disposing of residential plots, commercial premises, and industrial land through open tenders and leaseholds.
CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited) was established on March 17, 1970.
The public sector undertaking was incorporated under the Indian Companies Act of 1956 by the Government of Maharashtra with the primary goal of planning and building the satellite town of Navi Mumbai (formerly New Bombay) to help decongest Mumbai
