The evolution of the concept of urban sustainability is described and a framework is proposed based on four pillars: economic development, social development, environmental management and effective urban governance.

Town planning is the attempt of designing a city or locality which includes buildings, bridges, roads, highways, parks, schools etc. to ensure a decent standard of living for the persons inhabiting the city or locality. Town planning is done at a national, regional and at a local lev

Planning is done in such a way that there is minimum traffic congestion or water clogging problems, and the road network is made such that it connects the whole town, minimising the distances and making it safe for people to travel.

The main components of urbanization are :

                               i.            Population pressure and lack of resources in the rural areas are the push factors for urbanization.

                             ii.            People migrate to urban areas due to the availability of better standards of living, well-paid jobs, greater opportunities, better health care, and education facilities.
